There are four steps to creating habits, says BJ Fogg who runs the persuasive technology lab at Stanford University and is author of Persuasive Technology: Using Computers to Change What We Think and Do.
Speaking at a persuasive design conference in Belgium a couple of years ago, Fogg shared four steps to creating habits. They are:
- Find the smallest behaviour that matters
- Work out where to out this in your daily routine
- Train the sequence – ie keep at it on a regular basis
- Allow the full behaviour to emerge.
Fogg’s work was mentioned at yesterday’s Epic compliance training event by director of learning Imogen Casbourne.
