Last week Sam Burrough and I ran a session at the Learning and Technologies Conference entitled ‘#: are they just misundersttood?’

In that session we shared this quote by Simon Nelson, the CEO of FutureLearn, the Open University’s MOOC platform, which sums up our approach to MOOCS. Rather than perceiving them as the new shiny – which for many can result in0 being overly-cautious to the point of being dismissive – it would be more useful to think of them as the next iteration of online learning.

MOOCs will not be the end point of online learning, they represent a stage in its development.

If you are interested in social learning, Sam and I are currently running a MOOC on Exploring Social Learning, which you can sign up to here.
