Last week LearnPatch ran its first event, a bar camp-style event on curation in learning entitled Curation Camp.
The event was a great success, with around 25 people crammed into a pub over the road from the Learning Technologies Conference and Exhibition Hall.
The aim of the event was to have interesting conversations around a hot topic and for people to relax a bit after day one of the conference and exhibition. Thanks, to our sponsor, social learning platform, Curatr, we were able to provide everyone with a free drink. As former BBC chief learning officer Nigel Paine commented on the event, ‘It’s having a drink with a purpose.’
After a brief introduction from me, learning technologies manager Craig Taylor set the context for the discussion. Taylor had a t-shirt made specifically for the event, the back of which you can see here. On the front it read ‘I swing both ways’.
And so after presenting some pros and cons, our three other speakers – Time Drewitt, Sam Burrough and Ben Betts spent five minutes per table talking through their ideas on curation in learning and how they do it personally and in the workplace. This sparked much conversation.
Thanks to Taylor’s creative idea, the speakers tweeted what they were going to talk about ahead of the event, which you can see here:
Judging by the tweets on the event hashtag #curationcamp, the event was useful and attendees liked the format.
